Nov. 1st, 2012 11:36 amA very Happy (if chilly) Halloween happened here!

For those who might remember, last Halloween was kind of a nightmare for us. We were overcommitted, had too many plans and infants too small to enjoy them, we didn’t do a trial costume run and thus found ourselves out at the costume store ON Halloween at 5PM trying to find a costume for Brooks…
… so yes. Many learning opportunities from last year led to a MUCH better experience this year. I left work early, picked up the kids, got pizza for dinner so we didn’t have to stress about that at all. We chose pretty low-maintenance and extremely cute costumes that we made ourselves (I just couldn’t get in to any of the ones for sale online or in stores this year. Did anyone find anything cute?) and the kids were comfortable.
We didn’t walk far, we went early and I had low expectations of the kids involvement in the actual Trick or Treat part. So, we all had a really fun walk in silly costumes and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We were only out about 45 minutes because of the cold before we turned in. We had dinner, watched the other trick or treaters, watched Spookely the Square Pumpkin and let the boys stay up late.
They also had their first taste of candy. Brenner is a fan, Brooks hates it. Imagine!
I do feel like I got hit by a car today, though. After the revelry was dying down, I went upstairs to change into my pajamas. We put the dogs in the bedroom so that they wouldn’t 1) scare kids and 2) be all stressed by the door knocks ever 5 seconds. When I opened the door, Mosely barreled past me. I stuck a leg out to deter him… but he knew he was in trouble. Why, you ask? When I put the dogs away I forgot to close the door that belongs to Grizabella. So, he raided her trash. There was catfood *everywhere*. On our bed, all over the floor.,,,
… He shot out past me so fast that he knocked me flat. I literally flew up in the air and landed flat on my back on the hard wood floor. I also thought there was a chance he’d broken my leg as he ran *through* me. Mosely was also in such a hurry to escape that he fell down the stairs. Sigh. So, lots of clatter. Nicole thought I’d done something to the dog, but in reality, he really messed me up. I laid on the floor for about minutes crying and trying to decide whether or not I was in one piece and if I should stand up.
All the while I could hear Nicole downstairs passing out candy, “Happy Halloween!” In a chipper voice. She did come help me up and strip the bed to wash all of our bedding when she was free – but she was wrangling toddlers, escaped dogs and manning the door.
Ouch ouch ouch.
And then Brenner threw up at 10:30. Poor kid. We think he had birthday party tummy from the snacks, dinner, and minute amount of candy (like, 1 bar of a kitkat and half a reeses cup). We cleaned him up and snuggled him until he was ready to go back to sleep. But there is still a fever. Poor sick kiddo.
