Jul. 9th, 2013 07:43 amIt is getting hard to deny the theft of morning light. Each day seems just a little more like dawn and a little less like morning. The evenings still feel long, though. I went to bed at 8:45 to read and read and read, twilight still creeping in through the narrow gaps between curtain and wall until 9:15.
My run yesterday wasn’t the best. I had grand intentions of trying a new route and then was foiled because the pedestrian bridge that took such a hit in the flooding is still closed. So I ran the other direction only to find that the ‘fishing bridge’ is still topped with water, too. There was just enough of a narrow strip to run on the concrete median without getting TOO wet, but I still crossed some water that soaked my right foot, ran though some serious mud and debris and even a school of dead fish that look like they got caught on the wrong side of the concrete barrier once the water receded. I paced another lady and at each obstacle we laughed about how we must REALLY be committed to ford the river, negotiate the sucking mud, rotting fish and (on my way back) skirt a giant fallen tree. (That’s what I get for trying to take another route home!)
The flooding left this place a mess. I have no idea how long it will take for everything to go back to normal.
Running is insane. There were days I hated it. Now I look forward to it – even the worst runs are better than NOT running. Yesterday wasn’t a great run, what with changing terrain multiple times. When Nicole came to bed at 1:30, she woke me and I couldn’t stop plotting a neighborhood route to try while the Greenway is under repair. I have an illness.
Tonight there is samosa pie on the menu. I’m already excited.
