Jul. 8th, 2013 08:24 amI am tired in a good way. The kind of good way that comes after a fully satisfying and fun long weekend.
Surrounded by new and the usual friends on the Fourth with a cook-out, play outside, run screaming and playing kind of evening. Setting off small fireworks on the front walk, sparklers. The finishing the evening watching the storm sweep through shortly before the pyrotechnics (cleared out just in time!) and then the fireworks from the attic window.
I went on a fabulous run Friday morning and had a spa afternoon with a 90 minute massage and pedicure on Friday.
Saturday we took the kids about an hour south deep into the Blue Ridge Mountains to visit The Dona’s grandparents. The Dona’s cousin and his wife were in town with their two small boys and a wonderful morning/early afternoon was spent picking and eating blueberries right off the bush, swinging on the rope swing and walking down to the pond to look for fish. Did I mention that her grandparents literally live on the side of a mountain? The view was incredible! And the kids had SUCH a good time. Brenner slept until almost 5:00 (Brooks refused a nap!) and when we got up, we all headed downtown to eat pizza (a GIANT pizza!) and ice cream while people watching. It was Ah-mazing. This is her grandparent's view:
Yesterday was Family Dinner, so all the cleaning that had to happen happened. I made two meals (one for everyone last night and then one for us tonight) AND a Mudslide cake. Making Monday’s meal on Sunday always frees me up for a good run on Monday afternoons. I woke up already excited about it this morning. I made a mental note of where all my clothes are and I am itching to put on my shoes and go.
Things of joy:

Things of joy:
- The kids’ experiences this weekend were full of new places, new people, and new things to do/see. I am so happy to be their mom and to be able to share these little simple joys with them. I never could have imagined living someplace where blueberries just GROW, much less eating them off the bush, warm from the sun.
- The chosen family I have all around me. You all are pretty freakin’ amazing.
- New career path, new dreams, new choices.
- Nicole. She’s adorable.
- My Brother Bailey scheduled his visit to come see us! YAY!
- Running.
Walking in to work this morning not terribly excited but finding my center in my gratitudes and now everything seems possible.
I put on a cute dress this morning and felt like a zillion bucks. But then couldn’t get the under-arm zipper to go up. I had to wake Nicole and after some tugging, she got it up. SCORE. Went downstairs, left Nicole notes all over the kitchen reminding her to take the rest of the Mudslide Cake to work (so we don’t eat it all!) and made my way out to the car. Sat down in the driver seat and then felt a breeze. The zipper broke and the seam opened up! No good! I had to dash back in and find a new outfit with seconds to spare. I also had to wake Nicole AGAIN because I couldn’t get the zipper far down enough to let me out of the dress! I was totally stuck! Too funny.Brenner at the pond:
