dreamsrundeep: (summer feet)
I have been up since 3AM with Brenner – poor little stinker threw up all night. Nicole was up, too, but she managed to get back to sleep around 5:30 and is going to go in to work late today since she only got about an hour of sleep before the sickness rodeo began. Two sets of sheets, one diaper, one pair of jammies, two blankets and three towels later. Poor Brennerbean. Somewhere around 4:45 AM, Nicole said, "Mom-ing is hard work!" Yep.

We returned home from Maryland on Monday. I love Maryland in the spring! The buttercups in all the horse fields with colts and their mamas playing behind stately black fences. Huge barns, fertile fields of soy beans and other crops just starting to break through. I spent most of the boys’ nap time in the sunshine reading. I came back with a small tan despite the chilly weather. We wore coats and moved our outdoor plans indoors on Mothers’ Day! Brrr!

Some of the highlights:
* The boys had their first ice cream cones!

* Rode on a horse for the first time with Nana and Mommy.

* Met cousin Anthony (8 months), Aunt Trina and Almost-Uncle Daniel. (Nicole snatched him right up and carried him around. Man, she looks good with a baby! We joked later about how before B&B we would never have asked to hold the baby and if the mama handed him to us, both of us would have insisted on sitting and probably wouldn’t have moved a muscle the whole time we were holding him. Ah, growth!)

* Met Nicole’s childhood friends, one of them brought her adorable son. We played together on the playground by the water at the ‘beach’ Nicole and her friends grew up on – a generational span!

The boys language is just exploding. Brenner and Brooks are steadily using 4-word and 5-word sentences. Amazing. And conveying feelings and states of being: Hurt, wet, hot, cold. On Mothers’ Day playing in the yard, Brooks came up to me and said “Cold, please mama coat?” You could have knocked me over!

The drives up and back went well. Nicole had a stomach bug while we were up there and Brenner getting sick last night prompted me to remember that Brooks had a stomach bug the Monday before we left. Nicole thought she had food poisoning but I bet she was just victim number two of this bug. I hope I don’t get it. They were all so miserable, clammy and sweaty with their adventure in sick-land. Eeek.
The babysitter had her baby – Waverly is a gorgeous little girl that I can’t wait to get my hands on – but considering the stomach bug… I think I will wait.
