dreamsrundeep: (summer feet)
I hit the trails again today. I think I am finally getting to be a ‘runner’ again. I don’t make much distgance, still – but the determination to improve is there and reaching fever pitch. I’ve run in the snow, across the ice, in the dark, alone, on crowded greenways, in the heat and pounding sun.

After a week of sickness, getting back in the groove was tough, but it is a delightfully cloudy day where the air temperature is the same as your skin temperature and you wonder if there really is a boundary there between you and the rest of the universe.

There wasn’t anything about this run that wasn’t beautiful. From putting on the new running clothes Nicole brought me last weekend, to the hard push of the first ten minutes jogging, the breeze by the river, all the trees in bloom and even getting caught in a torrential (but light and persistant) shower that had me reluctantly turning home earlier than I wanted. Hard to believe a month ago I was running in snow flurries that stung my face.

Delight.

And the shower afterward was nice, too. Nicole is bringing me lunch on this rare work-from-home day, so of course I had to get in a run! She’s bringing me a stromboli from a new Italian place near her work downtown. I am suuuuuuuper excited. Especially now that I feel like I’ve ‘earned’ it.

Life continues apace. I represent my quarter of Virginia tomorrow in the Toastmasters Divisional competition. I’m pretty stoked and I think I have a good shot. I love public speaking. It’s also Earth Day tomorrow and our hippy, granola neighborhood has a huge party by the Natural Food Co-Op and all the eateries and shops in our ‘village’ within the city. A full day indeed!

The boys are speaking three word sentences now. Yesterday we went on a walk together (while Nicole worked late, boo hiss.) and I had one boy holding each hand for our two block circumnavigation. I just cannot express how much easier they are at this age and what a delight it is to hear them talk things out. Brooks calls Brenner “Baby” because that’s what Nicole and I call them (and sometimes each other!), so we’re trying to get him to realize that “baby” has a real name. But I still love it when Brenner walks into another room and Brooks gets all concerned and says, “Oh NO! Baby! Baby? Baaaaaaaby?!”
