Dec. 3rd, 2012 06:03 amAh, birthday.
Not one of my best, but ended up okay. Family dinner fixed my "everyone forgot about my birthday" funk. Being surrounded by people I love certainly buoyed my mood. I still acted pretty abysmally to poor Nicole, but seriously was hurt that there was no fanfare or really anything special that happened. Meh. I will still give this 32nd year of my life the tenuous benefit of the doubt. Some of my best years have started with meh birthdays. (And then I log in to FB and see that over 100 people wished me well - that is astonishing!)
Weekend: We got a dog. No, not a permanent dog. Another foster dog. Yet again, my fault. On Friday a coworker circulated an email about a chihuahua terrier mix that showed up on her rural property. She had to keep him outside because her small house already has three dogs, a toddler, and lots going on. Nicole and I talked about it and I commandeered the dog. He's a senior citizen with cataracts and no teeth and that old-dog smell. He's obviously been loved, but no one is looking for him. We've posted 'found' ads all over social media and with the pounds because the shelter we foster for has that as a legal regulation. He has to be posted for 7 days before we can legally consider him abandoned. I think he's probably 12 and he weighs less than 10 pounds. He's a cantankerous old dude in some ways, but small enough not to be a problem. Plus, he has no teeth. And he's slow. I took him directly to the shelter, got him into the program and scanned for a microchip. Go me. We're calling him Iggy.
The landscape of the house is changing for Christmas. We dismantled the large play-pen area that has been up since the boys got mobile. It makes the livingroom/entryhall look HUGE. We're also putting away a TON of toys and getting rid of toys the boys aged out of to make room for the fabulous kitchen set and all the accessories they are getting for Christmas. Also, pillow racers. How awesome is that going to be on hardwood floors? (I may eat my words!) Any tips on teaching your toddler not to kill your tree?
We also hung some of the outdoor lights yesterday. And it is supposed to be in the 70s today. What? I think maybe Nicole and I can work outside tonight and it will be *warm*. Weird. But I've always said that some years it snows on my birthday and some years I wear a t-shirt. This is a t-shirt year! So strange.
I have only ten more working days until a 2 week vacation. I WILL make it!
