Nov. 5th, 2012 05:57 amI am seeing so many people do their 30 days of Thanksgiving on Facebook that it seems like a wonderful idea. But I'm not really a 'loud' facebook presence and hesitate to come out of hiding to do it. So, I've been giving myself a few minutes a day to think about individual gratitudes - I let myself float in the feeling of gratitude quietly and reflectively. I realize daily that I have so much to be thankful for and so much to love and live for. And that is such a gift in and of itself.
But topping my gratitude list lately is this chosen family of mine. I am surrounded by strong, amazing people who do wonderful things. Seriously. I'm also grateful for facetime with my brother. That has been SO fun.
A low-key weekend helped the kids through the worst of their cold. I think yesterday they sounded nearly over it. Of course, daylight savings brings with it another set of challenges. Brenner was fit to be tied last night around bedtime - craaaaanky. Brooks took the longest nap ever and didn't get up until 30 minutes before dinner. I keep expecting to hear them any second now since it's technically nearly 7AM as far as they can tell... but the nursery is quiet. The house is quiet. I am surrounded by sleeping cats and quiet. Just me and my coffee. I love these moments, too.
I bought my first box of quinoa on impulse yesterday. I know many of you have cooked with it for years, so what do I need to know? Any favorite recipes?
We celebrated little A's seventh birthday at family dinner last night. I made homemade chocolate butter cream icing to top truffle-stuffed pink cupcakes. Nic said the frosting alone made her fall in love with me all over again. Hilarious! So, make that a tasty quinoa recipe, folks. I have a lot invested in it! ;)
