Nicole's long birthday weekend = Success.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals on Thursday night were amazing. Every time we see her she has more polish and poise. We both couldn't stop commenting on how the first time we saw her they looked like a grungy little band from Vermont. Now they are teetering on the edge of stardom. Her voice is even MORE melty and smoky and delightful.

We took Friday off just to be with each other and went shopping and took a long, long walk on the newest part of the greenway with the dogs. They were in heaven. The newest part of the greenway winds around behind an industrial section which gave me moments of:

In fact, my camera roll is teeming with fall, industry, tiny towns and cemeteries.  Saturday, Nicole and I took a long drive up Lee (as in Robert E. - of course.) highway/Route 11 to Lexington.  We had a delicious 3 course lunch at a place I'd picked beforehand and spent the afternoon wandering the cute little shops.  She also humored me by walking up to Stonewall Jackson cemetery -  probably one of the prettiest and oldest ones I've ever seen.

If you follow me on Instagram, I posted one of the pictures I got of a Confederate soldier's grave.  This one touched my heart in another way:

And all the old lichen and moss in stunning colors?  The trees aflame?  I had a wonderful time reading epitaphs and wondering.  At one point, Nicole said - "Isn't is amazing that in 1890 a family stood here mourning at this grave?" As we stood over the grave of a 17 year old girl. It is pretty freakin' amazing, yes.

And then a stop-in to a coffee tasting:

The boys spent the night with Aunt E, so I'm off to join Nic in bed with our coffee and enjoy the quiet of no-responsibility a little bit longer. (Though if you ask the dogs and cats, we still have responsibility, we're just lazy!

I would sit around all day editing photos, but we have cooking, cleaning and laundry to do!
