Jul. 27th, 2012 07:11 amThe sun was a blood orange this morning, exsanguinating when I peeked out the bathroom window to see what was causing the nuclear orange-red glow. Then I had to shower in the dark because even though we were down to one bulb and I had copious mental notes to change the blown bulbs, I never did and sometime during the night, the last light went out. By the time I got out of the shower, the sky was molten gold but the sense of foreboding from the red sunrise lingers. I hope we do get the storms they are talking about today. We could really use the rain. It was 80 degrees at 3AM. I wish I could sleep through the night!
Texas trip:
I’m not going to say the trip was lacking drama with my mother, but I will say that the joy of seeing my brothers and father far outreached anything negative for me. Staying in a hotel was fun with the kids. And I’m amazed that they were so good and such troopers through all of the adventures we had.

I don’t think there are any weekend plans for us. Huzzah! Except to get the house in shape. I mean, man. Our house is yucky. The cats having the run of the place with no humans, the mess we left when we went out of town… it has all piled up enough to tweak me out. It will be nice to just be able to scrub and hang out with the kids.
We are also going to add a foster cat and dog to the mix. I know. We need another dog like a hole in the head. But I fell in LOVE, ya’ll. My dreamdog landed in the shelter we volunteer for. She is currently named Raleigh:
I mean, just looking at her picture makes me giddy:
