Busy, busy weekend.
Spent Saturday in Washington, DC with our overseas guests. Three chaperones and five visitors loose on the Metro in DC. Amidst Gay Pride and ten thousand Girl Scouts “Rocking the Mall”.
It was a completely exhausting day in the 90 degree heat, running pell-mell through they city, trying to see as much as possible. I took my group to the National Air and Space Museum, one I’d never been to. My heart was still in the Natural History Museum, the National Gallery and the Hirshorn, though. I missed my favorite pieces of art… but still managed to get a peek at the Hope Diamond (again).

My feet and body ached so much! I nearly collapsed when I got home. I’m more tan than I was, too. Hot, hot day. And the Mall has little-to-no shade. I missed my wife and babies – Nicole took care of everything on her own on Saturday, too. AND managed to do the laundry, keep up on the dishes, take the boys out for fun activities and Indian food, read them books and play outside on the splash pad.
My partner is the rockin’-est mommy ever. I am SO lucky that she held down the fort while I tour-guided.
I’ve never been to Capitol pride, but I’m thinking that next year we seriously need to consider taking the boys up there for the weekend, seeing the zoo and enjoying the gay-ness. I missed my wife terribly seeing all the happy couples in their revelry! I don’t know that our guests from India quite knew what to do with the scene – especially the guy wearing the short shiny gold shorts that left little to the imagination…
I need a weekend where everything is run of the mill. I don’t think we’ve had a down weekend in over a month. I still feel less than coherent. More. Coffee.
Edit to Add: Forgot! Nicole also had time to meet with the fencing guy on Saturday while the kids were napping. We are fencing our front yard, dividing out back yard into dog-yard and people-yard AND building a small deck off the back stairs to make the steps safer and more gradual. The fence guy agreed to work on a weekend this month to get it done. HURRAY!
