Friday in short paragraphs:

My commute this morning was peppered with magical moments. The haze made the sunlight look like it was lazily cutting through gauze draped over a sleeping world. Light with so much body you swore that you could reach out and touch it, grab hold and mold it. Breathtaking shots of light leaking through the tree canopies and spilling over shining, dew-covered rooftops and grass. Steam started to rise from the ground to meet the tangible light. It made the photographer in me gasp and ooh and ahh the whole time.

Aside: Why can’t I go back to college where all I did was write papers and make art?

Nicole has a cocktail party for work tonight. So, while she got to come home early last night, I will miss her tonight as she parties with her work peeps. But I know how important networking is and what a social being she is, so the boys and I will be on our own tonight for play, dinner, bath, and story time.

I have to get up at 4:30 AM tomorrow morning to meet the crew (India folks) for a day trip to DC. I feel like I haven’t had a full weekend with just my family in ages, so the prospect of this day trip leaves me of two minds. I would desperately like to spend the day with my family, but I’ve also committed to taking these folks up to DC since their New York weekend didn’t pan out. It IS exciting to see the world from their eyes, I love Aunt Elaine and she is going, and I LOVE DC and haven’t been there in quite some time… so, mixed bag. I know I’ll be totally wiped out on Sunday and I wish I had some time for myself, but such is life. It is also supposed to be pushing 90 degrees tomorrow in the Nation’s Capital. Yuck.

Our afternoon walks take us by two parks. Brooks cannot STAND passing a park and not being allowed to play. If we walk by the first park, we usually have intentions of stopping at the second one… but try explaining that to a 16 month old.

I forgot my glasses at home today. Had to run home and get them after I tried to tough it out for 30 minutes. Sigh.

On the plus side, running home and coming back did give me the perfect opportunity to stop for McDonalds oatmeal and coffee…

At home (at 7:30 AM), no one was awake. Not even the dogs.

My parents are asking me to come home this summer. We can’t afford it. Heartsick.

And by ‘can’t afford it’, I mean tickets, pack n play rentals, food and other stuff would cost probably somewhere in the realm of two thousand dollars when all is said and done.

Lastly, thanks to the sale of our house, we do have a small surplus (not enough to swing a trip to Texas…), and I am planning on going ahead and purchasing an iPad… I think? I would use it mainly for reading, surfing the net, editing photos, and games/books for me and the kids.

Those of you that have iPads, what are the pros and cons? What do you use yours for? I’m asking everyone I know because I’m hearing some surprising things… Like, my new network at work is compatible with them and I could work entirely off my iPad… but the iPad isn’t mouse compatible, so people are struggling with using things like excel. Who knew?
