Nov. 9th, 2013 09:34 amI am such a sucky live journal friend lately. Seriously. Like, I know you all are out there because you leave me these encouraging comments that are getting me through this time. Please know I appreciate each comment even though I cannot seem to find the time to get back to you all individually. Your hope and faith in me is a sustaining force in this adventure and I am so blessed to have been using this social medium to connect with you all for nearly 13 years. This is the longest chronicle of my life to date. And it is still home to me even though I don't get to write much anymore. Well, write HERE. Let me tell you, I am WRITING. Whoa.
I got up early this morning and told the kids I was going to work and carried myself and all my research to my favorite lesbian-owned coffee shop in our hip little neighborhood. The owner is here and circulating with the patrons. She sat at my table for a bit and we talked school, lesbians, relationships, hot coffee and futures. She's moving through her shop, queen of her domain and making meaningful connections with all of us. I love that about this place. Her partner came in and they are leading a lively discussion together on the sofas with several other newspaper reading lesbians. The cargo-wearing lesbian behind the counter this morning made me a mocha too pretty to drink. I am caffeinated and actually DONE with my two large papers. Just one more minute to listen to my music and journal before putting back on the mom-hat and going home.
This little bit of peace has been worth it. I might have to do this a Saturday a month. I took a hot bath last night with candles and stress relief oils, too. More self-care needs to be practiced. I am burning the candle at both ends and not faring the better for it.
Bullet points
- I am teaching 18 students in India and I adore them. They got me a webcam for this class and I can see their faces - it has increased my experience 100 fold to be able to connect with them. I hate that outsourcing is such an ugly thing for US work, but these kids are awesome.
- There will never be enough hours in my day to do what I need to do to keep up and then try to get ahead at work. This hourly business is for the birds. But now I look back to the days I was exempt and working 10+ hour days and wonder where grad school would have fit.
- My friend that got laid off with me in May just found out she is having a baby boy.
- Another mom in our donor community on facebook is expecting another child by our donor!
- We booked our trip to Disneyworld for October 2014.
- We leave for Texas in 20 days.
- I had an amazing chocolate croissant this morning for breakfast.
