dreamsrundeep: (summer feet)
I was awake too early today. Well, 4:45 is only 15 minutes before my alarm... but when you wake up to a 70 pound Mosely dog in your face, it is too early. Our Big retriever mix is a scaredy-dog, afraid of his own shadow and prone to run, bark, hide behind you or try to jump in your lap (if you are seated) when startled. This is honestly the first time I've ever woken up to him with both front paws on the bed, nose in my face, urgently trying to crawl into my arms.

I immediately start exclaiming and wake Nicole thinking that there might be a real problem with the dog. Is he sick? Does he need to go out and this is an emergency? What is the *deal*!?

And then, in the distance, the chirp of a dying fire alarm battery.

Why do they always die in the middle(ish) of the night!? Nicole had to go out on the porch to get the ladder, I had to bring the dog downstairs so he could see everything was all right. I just stayed awake to complete some school assignments. Nicole and Tucker (cattledog) went on back up to bed, but Mosely will not leave my side. Silly dog.

Brooks is potty training. I think because of his wicked diaper rash from the beach vacation, kid is determined not to have to wear diapers anymore. I bought him big boy undies Saturday at Target and he's running to the potty when he needs to go, he's communicating very clearly and asking to go at the sitter's house, too. We just bought him pull-ups, so we're going to try those today. Ah, that last step out of baby-hood. (For the record, Brenner could STILL care less! Which is fine. I cannot imagine training two at once.)

Today is a Run Day. I'm getting better at finding the balance between Mom, Full Time Employee, Graduate Student, Half-Marathon Trainer. I even made chicken and dumplings and chocolate cupcakes from scratch last night before writing half of my ten page paper. I am going to have to study hard tonight, but balance is coming.
