Dec. 29th, 2012 10:32 amI am cautiously optimistic that today may be the day I've turned the corner toward health. I still can't breathe, my ears still hurt ... But when I woke up for the second time this morning (after a pathetic sit-on-the-floor-in-the-shower-repeating-I-will-not-die-of-the-flu shower around 4am) I didn't feel Ike I was going to die for sure. Only that I might die. This is progress, folks!
I'm sure my kids have forgotten me. I can hear everyone playing downstairs and for the first two days of quarantine, whenever I opened the door up here, I could hear the pitter-patter of little feet running to the base of the stairs yelling, "mama!". Now the door opens and closes and the don't think anything of it. Sucky.
I watched the entire first season of Downton Abbey. Hooked, one episode right after the other. I have no idea how many hours of tv that is, do I care? Probably not. Great suggestion, friends! I also watched a documentary called "Happy" about what it truly means to be happy and how stuff doesn't make you happy. It was pretty interesting and had a side of science to it that I found fascinating, for instance, if you don't actively seek out and find experiences that trigger adrenaline and dopamine release, you actually lose happy receptors in your brain. Yep. Happiness is a use it or lose it commodity, they were also saying that 50% of your happiness is indicated by a baseline determined by your genetics and 40% is what you seek out to increase happiness. I can't remember what the other 10% was. Flu-brain. Anyway, popular ways to boost happiness include working out, being with people, trying new things, staying mobile and active and being kind. It was science right up my alley!
I have the window blinds and curtains open today because it is supposed to snow. I think it is going to be a bust, though. It looks cold enough, but the precipitation just isn't there. Nicole brought me up coffee and a piece of the pineapple upside down cake (holy moly - has it really been three days since I ate anything of substance?!) she made. Her first! She said it isn't as good as mine, which warmed my heart, but it is totally tasty. Glad to know they are missing my cooking! Who would have thought that two years ago?
